The conflict between the nations of Russia and Georgia, a serious and fairly complex crisis, caught much of the world by surprise. It also gave both Presidential candidates a chance to demonstrate their savvy in the area of international relations, as well as their potentially different ways of leading during such a crisis. And of course it presented the opportunity for a candidate to make a completely bone-headed faux pas.

John McCain was speaking to reporters, where he said categorically, "In the 21st Century, nations don't invade other nations." Seriously.
We picked this particular quote because John McCain specifically calls the Iraq War an invasion. It is from a "Meet the Press" interview with Tim Russert in January of 2008:
The problem in Iraq, my friend, was not whether we went in or not, it's the way it was mishandled after the initial invasion.
He seems to be okay with the notion of one country invading another in this particular context.
