You'd think that of all the issues that John McCain could disagree with his party on, torture would be one that no one could really blame him for. Indeed, he himself was a prisoner of war and subjected to horrendous treatment while in captivity. Would anyone really question him for opposing "enhanced interrogation techniques," if only by principle? Unfortunately, this is one of the sadder flip-flops we've encountered, simply because we have to hope that Senator McCain is acting against his conscience.

Has the world gone crazy? At one point, it was considered fairly normal to want the worst individuals in society to be brought to justice. And giving everyone a fair trial just showed that the American judicial system worked. We didn't need secretive kangaroo courts because we wanted to be better than our foes. John McCain used to agree.

Ever since it was revealed that the Bush administration wanted wiretaps without warrants, wiretapping has been a hot issue. John McCain puts his foot down when it comes to breaking the law. Or does he?
